DoD approves Navy to puchase 52 LCS and SSC Ships

The Department of Defense has approved the acquisition of 52 LCS and SSC ships by the Navy.  This final number provides the Navy with 20 additional vessels, compared to 32 ships approved in prior contract negotiations.

In a statement released by the Department of Defense, Secretary Hagel wrote: “After rigorous review and analysis, today I accepted the Navy's recommendation to build a new small surface combatant (SSC) ship based on upgraded variants of the LCS. The new SSC will offer improvements in ship lethality and survivability, delivering enhanced naval combat performance at an affordable price.”
